The $2419 (plus the price of a copy of Windows Vista, of course) MacBook Pro's PC WorldBench 6 Beta 2 score of 88 beats Gateway's E-265M by a single point, but the MacBook's score is far more impressive simply because Apple couldn't care less whether you run Windows.

So. If I buy a laptop, what kind should I buy? I don't want a Mac. This is a serious question, David.
Well, the advice I usually give is a Macbook (not a Macbook Pro, unless the add'l "horsepower" needed can justify the increased cost).
Macbooks run the nicest, most user-friendly OS there is - and are perfectly capable of running Windows as well, if it's necessary.
If you really, really, don't want a Mac, then Lenovo (formerly the IBM brand) makes good, Windows-based laptops in their Thinkpad series. I'm especially fond of their Thinkpad T-series and X-series. Can't vouch for any, others.
But why don't you want a Mac ?
