Secular Humanist Revisionist

In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.

--- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Horatio G. Spafford, March 17, 1814

It's not news that something smells about the IRD-funded organizations like the AAC/ACN and their religious right brethren. The Founding Fathers knew it over 200 years ago.

The IRD is one of the smelliest things in the United States, and it has its claws in everything that's going badly in mainstream Protestantism. I wrote an enormous term paper about this last semester.

No, really. I did. I was taking a course called Religion in America as an elective. It was yet another thing that made me rather fond of TEC. :)

Cool. Any chance of you publishing that on-line for general consumption ?

Hmmm. It's kind of "term-paper-iffic," but maybe I'll put a couple of pieces of it up there.

It was crazy because things were changing even as I wrote. This was back in December when the Virginia churches were voting to, er, secede.

I find it hard to believe that those Virginians are going to be comfortable in the Church of Nigeria. I think they've backed themselves into a corner.

An understatement if ever I heard one.

I'd like to read your term paper, too, PJ. Is this the organization which is funded by some of the same wealthy folks who were involved in funding the vast right-wing conspiracy against the Clintons?

Eppure torna! is the word that comes to mind...

(and please! the paper)
